The House above the Road
On the gently sloping hills in the valley around the River Bednja lies the tiny village of Gačice. Here there are just a little more than 300 souls living in as many as ten hamlets. The older houses are disappearing, and only a few are to be found here and there, but the legends and the hospitality remain. Legend has it that the Village was named Gačice (the Croatian word for underpants) after the Turks who had their (under)pants beaten off them when feeing away from these areas. Another legend speaks of fairies. Whenever you visit, you may hear yet another story…
